New Year’s Resolution For OFWs

The year is about to end and a new one, 2019 is fast approaching. Only days to go and we will be celebrating New Year’s Day, hopefully, with a big bang!

At the Palayan City Business Hub (PCBH), we are hopeful that this upcoming year will bring good fortune to the investors, employees, stakeholders, and all personnel comprising our establishment.

Since the PCBH offers a One-Stop Service Center for OFWs (OSSCO), we decided to impart some tips to make the lives of our clienteles (the OFWs) better.

Below is a list of New Year’s resolution which they could fulfil and aim to carry out to make 2019 a better year not just for themselves but for their families left behind in the Philippines as well.

Save more.

We all know that the main reason why Filipinos resort to working abroad is to provide good and quality life for their family and loved ones. However, the usual sad story for these modern day heroes whenever they return to their native land is going broke after a month of taking a break from work and spending time with their family during their vacation here in the Philippines.

Even before they leave their work abroad to spend their vacation in their motherland, part of their savings are usually depleted already after buying loads of pasalubong for their family and friends, and sometimes for their relatives.

The result, they end up having the best vacation ever but flat broke with only a few left in their savings for their flight back to the country where they work.

It is therefore very essential for these them to be extra vigilant when it comes to spending their life savings when returning back to the Philippines for their holidays or vacation.

Invest wisely.

Some Filipinos are taking their chances for easy money. This is the reason why the pyramid-scam is still very widespread despite victims coming out in the open and even when these rackets or illegal practice are broadcast by the media.

Even the Philippine National Police (PNP) have issued warning that if the investment or financial venture is too good to be true, then it is more likely to be a scam.

But despite this caveat cautioning Filipinos to be alert when it comes to these unbelievable offers of easy money, many of our countrymen, usually our OFWs still fall prey to these con artists.

The best option, therefore, in order to have a safe and financially sound investment is to consult the experts. There are reliable licensed financial advisers who can definitely assist the OFW in making a sound investment moves and put their money into wise money ventures.

If they cannot afford these professional services, the better alternative is to make a thorough and extensive study about their intended investment and make a comprehensive feasibility plan. Think about all the pros and cons surrounding the planned investment and when the pros outweigh the cons considerably, go ahead with the project.

According to Business News Daily, if you already have an idea as to what business you want to put up, the prospective investor must ask these following questions: “What is the purpose of your business? Who are you selling to? What are your end goals? How will you finance your startup costs? These questions can be answered in a well-written business plan.”

Regularly communicate with your family and friends at home.

With the technology that we have today, daily conversations with your loves ones at home is very easy and simple. Several free applications, like Facebook Messenger, Viber, WhatsApp or Facetime are very easy to download to your laptops or even smartphones.

Gone are the days when the padre de pamilya working overseas would record his hellos and greetings to his family and loved ones via tape recorder and send this via post mail to be received by the loved ones after a few weeks.

Now, with one click of a button or swipe of a screen, the OFW can see, hear and communicate with his family in an instant. Because of this technology, there are less chances of the family being broken or falling apart since they can get in touch with each other every single day.

Stay in shape.

Always bear in mind that you are working abroad to provide your family with the best life that they can have. It is therefore very important that you stay healthy physically as well as mentally so that you can continue being a good provider to your family.

Think of what will happen to your family if you become ill. It is therefore very essential that you get regular medical check-ups to make sure that you stay in the pink of health not just for your welfare but for the benefit of your family in the Philippines as well.

Prevention, of course, is the best defense and therefore it is important that you have a healthy lifestyle by eating balanced meals and exercising regularly.

Have a good relationship with your employer and colleagues.

You will not have a good working environment if you are at odds with your co-workers. It is therefore a good idea to lessen the stress at the workplace by being friends with all your co-employee and your bosses.

It is not necessary to be best friends with all your colleagues but a healthy working relationship and being jovial to all of them will not kill you. In the future, should you need their help or assistance, you can rest assured that they will gladly provide support to you since you are their friend.
